Drawing on my decades of experience as a performer, my work explores the effects of surveillance on the human body. In poems, drawings, and songs, I create figurative images of lyric subjects, partly human and partly constructed, who are themselves caught in states of exposure, humiliation, or disfigurement. These uncanny images combine original material with clippings from luxury magazines, literary journals, and food scraps (in collage and poetry), as well as stock sounds and pre-existing recordings (in sound), to create half-synthetic, half-organic forms. 

Across disciplines, I am interested in how the ritual gestures of collage--clipping, tucking, free-associating, and rearranging--can produce quiet spaces within an excess of information. Like dreams, I hope these spaces can scramble spectators’ sense of identity, and in doing so, create opportunities to encounter their own self-censors.
